Kofa Advanced Placement United States History
United We Stand, Divided We Fall!About
The main purpose of this wordblog is to provide parents and students another forum of communication. Any student taking an AP course will discover how time consuming and stressful it can be. This college level course will demand students to independently work on their own a great deal. While class time will be utilized for class discussions and activities, it is vital that the majority of the reading be completed at home. Parents, this is where you come in. I would appreciate your support by encouraging your child to complete the necessary reading assignments at home. Please check the course outline to help you keep your child on track. If you have questions or comments please email me at aaragon@yumaed.org.
This site will be used as a resource tool for students in our AP U.S. History class. I will also periodically post assignments here to remind students what they are responsible for. Students, please feel free to leave your comments in response to the different posting. I will post questions pertaining to each unit to give you a chance to practice writing and expressing your points of view. Make sure you visit all the resource sites I have provided here to help you out in class.

Christopher Columbus villain or hero?
By Rapheol Papion first period apush
Christopher Columbus is known as the founder of the United States of America! We celebrate CC day in October but he didn’t come until his third voyage in 1498. He also was not the earliest European explorer to reach the Americas; in fact there have been numerous accounts of Vikings in the early Americas near Vancouver. The Scandinavian Vikings already settled in America in the eleventh century! So Columbus technically didn’t discover America.
Columbus was a villain for numerous reasons to be accounted for. Columbus did not do anything that others did not already do before him. In fact people before him already proved that the earth was already round! An Egyptian-Greek scientist Erastosthenes had already measured before Columbus the circumference and diameter of the world. In the third century B.C., Arab scientists had developed a whole law of geography and measurement, and in the tenth century A.D., Al Maqdisi described the earth with 360 degrees of longitude and 180 degrees of latitude. So Columbus as never the first to prove the earth was round!
Another reason why Columbus was evil is because he voyaged for three things, “Gold, Glory and God”. In his search for gold he massacred many people and almost wiped out an entire civilization all by himself. He did this for numerous reasons. One was for the fact he wanted personal gain out of it and the other was for Spain.
Columbus did many bad things to the natives and he killed almost all of them. He forced them to find gold where there was none, and if they did not find any he would murder them. Columbus also forced the natives to become slaves because he thought they were ignorant, most of the natives died on their way to Spain from syphilis and other diseases. Columbus and his men threw the native’s corpses over the side of the boat and into the ocean. The natives that did not become slaves worked on plantations where they too would die from the hard working conditions. The natives did nothing to deserve these harsh conditions! That just proved he is a Hitler not superman.

Mrs.Aragon I just want to give some advice about the website and how we can make it better. I was thinking that maybe the quizzes can be a little more exciting. It could be like instead of saying which answer is wrong we can find out at the end of the quiz what are overall score was. Also, different questions in every quiz. These is just an idea and how it can be changed. I really do enjoy this website. I never had a class where there was a classwebsite to help you out a lot. Thanks!
